The M53 medium tank is the product of lessons learned during the PSW, combining attributes of contemporary medium tanks with elements of heavy tanks for a universal blend of the two. With a crew of four and a weight of 33 tons unladen, M53 represents the first generation of genuinely universal tanks, fulfilling all roles of its predecessors in one package. First reaching units in 1947, the M53 would serve in many regional wars throughout its career, earning it a high reputation as a well-rounded vehicle loved by its crews.
